"I learned that we can do anything, but we can't do everything... at least not at the same time. So think of your priorities not in terms of what activities you do, but when you do them. Now is the time to choose your cottage lot location, select your preferred floorplan design, and choose your finishes and upgrades. At Summer Village at the Pond you can do all of these. In fact, it’s hard NOT to do these things here.

For exercise, head down to our Hildreth Gym for your own power workout or to join an exercise class, walk or jog our nature trails, partake in a game of tennis, or get the blood flowing by jumping into Long-Sought-For-Pond or one of our pools.
Have you made your New Year’s Resolutions yet?

The celebration of the new year, the oldest of all holidays, was first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago. In the years around 2000 BC, the Babylonian New Year began with the first New Moon, and the tradition of a new year’s resolution began. The early Babylonian's most popular resolution was to return borrowed farm equipment. Today, some resolutions include eating healthier, losing weight, managing debt or stress, quitting smoking, and volunteering/giving back.

This year why not resolve to make this upcoming summer your best one yet? Resolve to spend your weekends and vacation time lounging by the pool with friends, kayaking and fishing on Long-Sought-for-Pond, playing volleyball on the 2600-foot sandy waterfront, enjoying quiet reading in a pocket park, or dancing to live music with friends and neighbors at The Lodge.

Auld Lang Syne, often played as the ball drops on New Year’s Eve, is a long-standing New Year’s tradition. The poem was written by Robert Burns in 1788 and set to the tune of the traditional folk song “Round 6294.” Canadian band leader Guy Lombardo is often credited for popularizing the use of the song at New Year’s celebrations in the United States.

Auld Lang Syne literally translates to “Old Long Since” or, more simply, “long, long ago.” The song begins with a rhetorical question as to whether it is right those old times are forgotten, and it is generally interpreted as a call to remember long-standing friendships. Here’s a toast to new beginnings and lasting friendships!

Football and Thanksgiving

Football on Thanksgiving has become as much a tradition as the turkey and stuffing! Actually, records of pro football being played on Thanksgiving date back to as early as the 1890’s with the Allegheny Athletic Association of Pittsburgh. Later, in 1902, a Football League based entirely in Pennsylvania attempted to settle a championship over Thanksgiving weekend, and in the following years members of the Ohio League would place their top competitive teams against each other on Thanksgiving day.

Although several other NFL teams followed suit and played games on Thanksgiving, the first owner of the Lions, G.A. Richards, started the tradition of the Thanksgiving day game as a gimmick to get people to go to Lions football games and to continue a tradition begun by the city's previous NFL teams.

Today, essentially every level of football from high school to college to NFL plays football on Thanksgiving Day. Many enjoy attending their alma mater football game, cheering on their high school team when they return home for Thanksgiving, while others verbally participate in the action as they watch their favorite college or pro team take on rival teams on TV. Others simply enjoy partaking in a pickup game of their own with their friends and family. However you incoporate football this Thanksgiving, enjoy the game!

(Photo: Thanksgiving - J.C. Leyendecker)
