Although summer might seem like a time in the distant future, it’s now time to start thinking summer. Now is the time to choose your cottage lot location, select your preferred floorplan design, and choose your finishes and upgrades. In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to be consumed by deadlines and forget to take time out for ourselves. Relaxation and reenergizing is important for the mind, body, and soul.  Several ways to relax include exercising, meditation or prayer, reading/writing, and laughing with family and friends. For exercise, head down to our Hildreth Gym for your own power workout or to join an exercise class, walk or jog our nature trails, partake in a game of tennis, or get the blood flowing by jumping into Long-Sought-For-Pond or one of our pools. For meditation or prayer, take one of our sailboats or kayaks out on the pond for some tranquility and reflection. For a place to escape and read/write, wander off to read a book, sketch in a notebook, or take a nap under a tree in our acres of woodlands. Auld Lang Syne literally translates to “Old Long Since” or, more simply,  “long, long ago.” The song begins with a rhetorical question as to whether it is right those old times are forgotten, and it is generally interpreted as a call to remember long-standing friendships.  Here’s a toast to new beginnings and lasting friendships!

Although several other NFL teams followed suit and played games  on Thanksgiving, the first owner of the Lions, G.A. Richards, started the tradition of the Thanksgiving day game as a gimmick to get people to go to Lions football games and to continue a tradition begun by the city's previous NFL teams. 

Today, essentially every level of football from high school to college to NFL plays football on Thanksgiving Day.  Many enjoy attending their alma mater football game, cheering on their high school team when they return home for Thanksgiving, while others verbally participate in the action as they watch their favorite college or pro team take on rival teams on TV. Others simply enjoy partaking in a pickup game of their own with their friends and family. However you incoporate football this Thanksgiving, enjoy the game!

In addition to the basic traditions, families have their own traditions they look forward to every year such as a family game of football right before the meal, a special dish, volunteering at a local shelter, the breaking of the wishbone, watching their favorite high school football rivalry game from the stands or watching the professional teams on TV from the comfort, attending Thanksgiving Day Parade, or watching the same movie after the meal every year.  What is your favorite or unique Thanksgiving tradition?

Although today we have the high-definition TVs and 3-D movies, there’s just something about the old classic shows and movies that we don’t find these days. “Our Gang,” or “The Little Rascals,” created by comedian Hal Roach, were a series of American comedy short films portraying the adventures a group of neighborhood children and the harmless mischief they got in to.

For a foliage-filled driving route with a historic twist, try "The Boston Revolutionary History Trail," a 125 mile drive in eastern Massachusetts taking travelers through sites of the American Revolution between mills along the Merrimack River in Lowell all the way to Boston. If you're feeling more adventurous, hike or canoe Walden Pond located less than 30 minutes away from Summer Village in Concord, MA and take in the traquility of the pond adorned by the fall foliage. Or, enjoy the acres of wooded conservation trails right here at Summer Village at the Pond.
