We call these neighborhood gathering areas “pocket parks”.  They are community places where people can sit by a fire pit to toast marshmallows for s’mores or enjoy a sing-a-long, have a picnic, or engage in social gatherings with family and friends and still be close enough to home to run back for more refreshments.  They are designed to provide nearby residents with an area that feels like their own yard, large enough to play a casual sports game but small enough to build a sense of community with other neighborhood cottages.
